WASHINGTON CO. EMPLOYEE RECEIVES COMMENDATION FOR EFFORTS TO SAVE CARDIAC ARREST VICTIM

A Washington County employee was recognized during commissioners court this (Monday) morning for attempting to save the life of a citizen suffering cardiac arrest.

Amanda Horak, Victims Assistance Coordinator for the Washington County District Attorney's Office, was recognized Monday at commissioners court for responding and assisting in a cardiac situation at the courthouse.

Amanda Horak, Victims Assistance Coordinator for the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, received a commendation for her efforts during the situation at the Washington County Courthouse on January 9th.

County Judge John Durrenberger said Horak, after observing the victim, immediately called 911 and performed CPR for about five minutes until EMS arrived. He said, while the victim unfortunately did not survive the incident, Horak “did everything she could humanly possibly do”.

Durrenberger said it was both appropriate and responsible to recognize Horak’s actions, efforts, and quick thinking, which he said was “truly an action of heroism”.

Also in court today, commissioners:

  • Approved a right-of-way permit application for the CHI St. Joseph Health Gran Fondo, set for March 22nd.  The bike ride’s 70 and 100 mile routes will pass through Washington County.
  • Approved pay application #12 to Collier Construction for the Road and Bridge facility on Highway 36 North.  Commissioner Don Koester said the facility will be “a nice facility for the future of this county”, once it is completed.
  • Approved an interlocal cooperation contract failure to appear (FTA) program.
  • Approved the purchase of a 2020 police package Chevrolet Tahoe for the deputy constable in Precinct One and trade in three high-mileage Tahoes.  The value of the new Tahoe is $34,000, but trading in the three old Tahoes, which Durrenberger said needed “major repair work”, will cut off about $20,000 from that cost.
  • Approved a modification to the change fund for the Environmental Health Department as approved by the county auditor’s office, pursuant to Local Government Code 130.902.
  • Approved formal notice for utility installation for a two-inch road bore for a one-inch service line at 4825 Quail Run Road by PGMS-CWCWSC in Precinct Three.
  • Approved the cybersecurity course enrollment form for counties pursuant to Texas Government Code 2054.5191.
  • Approved two bills to be paid out of the courthouse security funds for the installation of cables and security cameras located in the courthouse.
