WASHINGTON CO. RECEIVES SIZEABLE SALES TAX REBATE FOR DECEMBER

  

Washington County received its highest state sales tax rebate of the year in December.

The county’s rebate this month reached $441,747, a whopping 102 percent more than its payment from the same time last year, of $218,197.  For the year, the county received $3,178,266, up 17.5 percent from 2017’s total of $2,703,360.

Brenham’s December rebate was $563,153, a 9.1 percent increase from last December’s total of $515,975.  Brenham’s payment for the year reached $6,514,581, less than 1 percent above last year’s total of 6,453,350.

In December, Burton received $5,438, down 5.5 percent from the same period a year ago, of $5,760.  In 2018, Burton received $75,533, 3.5 percent more than 2017’s total of $72,923.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reports the state allocated $761 million in local sales tax rebates, 9.5 percent more than December of 2017, and 8.8 percent more for the year.  These allocations are based on sales made in October, by businesses that report taxes monthly.
