WASHINGTON CO. ROAD AND BRIDGE CHANGING UP METHOD FOR REPAIRING ROADS

Officials with the Washington County Road and Bridge Department have announced a bit of a shake-up in how roads will be addressed across the county.

During Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting, County Engineer Ross McCall said the county will approach pavement seals differently than in years past. Previously, the county would apply two layers of rock and asphalt on a road in one treatment.  Now, workers will only do one layer, and come back a year later to apply the second layer.

McCall said this will allow the county to cover more ground more quickly, and should prolong the life of the pavement.

McCall said the first coating will be coarser, while next year the county will use a finer coating.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Commissioner Kirk Hanath said it is important for the public to understand the county’s method, as people might wonder why it is going over the same roads multiple times. McCall said this process was used by the county before, and maintained this is all a planned, budgeted effort.

The county’s road plan this year, which includes nearly 30 roads it plans to address, can be seen here.  McCall said the county will start work on next year’s plan once this year’s is completed.

  1. Sounds good. Sandtown and Nixon Lake Rd. needs attention in the worst way.

  2. It’s great to see that the county is maintaining the asphalt roads, but what about paving the unpaved roads? Or the stretches of unpaved roads where each end of the road is paved but the mile or two in the middle is not?
