The coveted public relations award in the large division rates only seven counties across Texas as “Superior”.  The rating is based on public relations, promotion, and reporting on agriculture in the county.

Washington County also placed first in District 11 for the State County Activity Award. The award is based on yearly events, participation, and promotion in all areas effecting agriculture.

The District Rated Secretaries Award named Washington County Farm Bureau as second in District, with Fayette County placing first.

Washington County Farm Bureau was represented by President Larry Winkelmann & Donna, Secretary Russell Borgstedte, Directors Linda Oberhoff, Don Wellmann and Jane. Jon Wellmann represented the county as the Young Farmer & Rancher member.

The meeting featured 1071 registered delegates that represented 159 counties and accepted state policy positions for the coming year. The delegates also recommended national policy positions for the consideration by the American Farm Bureau Federation in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Washington County Farm Bureau was recognized for 16 years of continuous membership gain, with a total of 4,175 member families today.

LaVerne Hinze of Burton was featured during the memorial tribute video for 2016. The distinguished service award was given this year to Vernie Glasson III, who began his Farm Bureau career in 1973, retiring in July 2016 as executive director and COO. District 11 presented Glasson with a monogrammed quilt that was personalize by all 13 counties in District 11.
