According to Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, deputies were called out Friday to a theft on Highway 290 East.

A homemade trailer outfitted with a Miller Bobcat Welder, acetylene tanks, a 2005 Mercury boat motor and assorted tools had been reported stolen.

According to Hanak, Investigator Clay Bosse discovered the stolen property was being stored at a residence in the 6000 block of State Highway 105.  A search warrant tunred up the stolen Mercury boat motor as well as a homemade toolbox that had been cut off the stolen welding trailer as well as other miscellaneous tools.

A felony theft warrant was issued for 27-year old Kenneth Brooks Helmer, who was arrested today (Tuesday) when he arrived for district court related to prior felony charges of Evading Arrest with a Vehicle and Evading Arrest with a Vehicle/Previous Conviction.

Authorities have not located the stolen trailer and Miller Bobcat Welder and request that if anyone has any information about these items or any other criminal offense contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 979-277-6251.

Sheriff Hanak says Helmer has a lengthy criminal record in Washington County.

  1. This is so sad. It makes me sick to see how drugs effect people. He needs some serious drug rehabilitation. Jail will do nothing for him but make him an even more hardened criminal. I feel for his family.

    1. Maybe who you should “feel for” should be the people he stole from. This is a grown man who made his own decisions, right or wrong. The victim of his theft had no choice in the matter. If he can’t stop himself from stealing what others have worked for, no matter what his reasoning for it is, then he shouldn’t be allowed to roam freely. I hope the trailer and welder are found and returned to the victim,
