WASHINGTON COUNTY READ COMING AGAIN

For the past six years Lifetime Learning has sponsored the Washington County Read, an effort to have everyone in the county read the same book, then review and discuss it.

This year you have plenty of time to get the book and read it in time for the discussion on October 17th.

The 2014 Washington County Read book is ‘One Amazing Thing’ by Chitra Divakarani.  The book is available at the temporary home of the Nancy Carol Roberts Library at the city hall lobby.  You can also find the book at the Blinn Library, HEB, and the Book Nook.  Divakaruni has won the National Book Award, the Pen Faulkner Award and the American Book Award.  She  also teaches creative writing at the University Of Houston.  It is also a book that may soon be made into a movie.

This year’s Washington County Read has a distinguished honorary chair in Ray Baughbjerg, the Honorary Royal Danish Consul for the Kingdom of .Denmark, and his wife Cherry.

The culmination of the Washington County Read will be a reception on October 17th at the Unity Theater.  Divakarani will be there discussing her book and the theater will perform a dramatic reading from the novel.  This event usually fills the theater, and they expect the same this year.
