The public is invited to hear Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, who will speak at the Rotary Club of Washington County meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at noon at the Cannery Kitchen at 314 E Alamo.

The Sheriff will speak on the open carry law implications for law enforcement and for our culture, and will also provide a law enforcement update.

Sheriff Hanak has served as Washington County Sheriff since January 2013. His prior background includes 36 years in law enforcement as a District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigator, Texas Ranger, DPS Trooper, and TDCJ Corrections Officer.

As Texas Ranger, Hanak served on the Executive Security team for George W. Bush during his presidential campaign. Hanak has worked closely on cases with the F.B.I., Secret Service, A.T.F., D.E.A., Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Customs and U.S. Border Patrol.

Hanak was recently appointment to the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas Cold Case Review Team. This “think tank” of the state’s best investigators provides help to all Texas law enforcement agencies who have major unsolved crimes.
