WORK ON 36 NORTH INTERCHANGE NEARLY COMPLETE

Work on the Highway 36 overpass project is nearly complete.

Mark Shafer, area engineer for the Brenham office of TxDOT, says all that’s left are some minor aspects of the project, such as: ditch work, striping, sinage and final clean up.

The major rehabilitation project, which began last August, included the installation of a traffic signal at Business 36 and Highway 36, the demolition of the overpass where the Highway leads north out of Brenham, and the creation of a ‘T’ intersection.

Cost of the project: $3.6-million.

  1. WOW !!!!!
Our Government spent 3.6 Million to remove a functioning overpass that would probably cost 6 Million to build. I really hope this new intersection as located in this curve with the elevation changes is safer than the overpass. The median between the left hand turn lane and the single lane to Somerville seems very narrow. I hope it is safe for all. Somehow, I can’t help but think that yellow flashing lights and a reduction of speed at the previous existing conditions would have probably been safer. Please everyone; take your time to this newly constructed hazard.

    1. Its not I have already seen wrecks over there! Its not the road its the way people drive!!!!!!
