The 124TH Maifest weekend is coming this week, with fun, family and festivities that celebrate Brenham’s German Heritage.
The Maifest is one of the oldest community celebrations in Texas, with its origins in the late 19th century. Maifest President Heather Thielemann says the festival has lasted so long because of the values it represents and the joy it brings to the community.
.The costumes of previous Maifest Royalty are already adorning the store windows in downtown Brenham businesses.
The 124TH Maifest officially opens Wednesday evening at Fireman’s Park with the Annual picnic and ribbon cutting under the Ollie Finke Pavilion.
There Junior and Senior Parade is Saturday morning through the city’s downtown parade route.
The Junior Coronation is Friday night with the court of Maifest Mysteries leading to the crowning of Junior King Jackson Edward Van Dyke and Junior Queen Piper McCall Puckett..
The Senior Coronation with the Court of Celebrations Across Texas is Saturday night, also at Fireman’s Park. Senior King Caleb Scott Rodenbeck and his Queen Caroline Rosemary Webb will reign over the court.
