A&M INVESTIGATES RACIAL ATTACK

Officials at Texas A&M are conducting an investigation after a group of visiting high school students from inner-city Dallas say they were harassed.

Students visiting the A&M campus from Uplift Hampton Preparatory were touring the College Station campus, Tuesday.

The Batallion reports that two female high school students were taunted by a female A&M student wearing “Confederate Flag earrings.”

She was reportedly then joined by a group of male and female students who allegedly began taunting the students with obscene racial slurs and were told “go back where you came from.”

Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp reported the incident to State Senator Royce West.

According to West, the A&M Student Senate has passed a resolution condemning the incident.

University President Michael K. Young has issued a memo expressing outrage and disappointment.

  1. “Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp reported the incident to State Senator Royce West.” Why in the world would the Chancellor report this incident to a State Senator? I would hope the Chancellor of the Texas A&M System would have the authority and responsibility to investigate and deal with this allegation without reporting it to a state senator.

    1. I know you may not understand the rational for Chancellor Sharp to report this incident to Senator West, hence your title “Confused!” But, the students were in Senator West’s area of constituency. Hope that helps.

      1. AC, I am fully aware of the fact that the students live in Senator West’s district, however I am not sure how that is relevant? They also live in a Texas house district, was their state representative notified? How about their US Representative in Congress or our two state senators? How exactly was Senator West a factor in this case and why was he involved.

It is interesting that with all the cell phones around today that no one captured a picture or video of the alleged incident. How about the security camera’s that are everywhere on campus, did no camera anywhere catch a glimpse of any of this? We have an alleged racial incident on campus, a state senator that has no relevance to the situation, and an administration quick to fall on it’s sword with little apparent evidence to show that the event happened, that the alleged person was a student, or even affiliated with A&M at all. Something smells wrong about this to me.

  2. There have been a number of incidents of alleged racial harassment around the country that were later found to have been greatly exaggerated or completely fabricated. Yet, after only three days, with the investigation apparently still in progress, the Student Senate condemns the incident and the University President expresses outrage and disappointment. It looks like the outcome of the investigation has already been decided.
