BOEHNEMANN FAMILY AND FRIENDS GIFT NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

  

“The Cynthia Boehnemann Memorial Scholarship is a gift of a lifetime for a student,” said Susan Myers, executive director of the Blinn College Foundation. “Mrs. Boehnemann’s legacy will live on through these students’ lives and work.”

Boehnemann graduated from the college’s LVN program and was employed as a nurse for more than 40 years at St. Jude and Trinity hospitals in Brenham. Friends and family said she loved her profession and made serving others a top priority.

“She was more than just a nurse,” said Donna Fricke, LVN professor on the Brenham campus. “She was a mentor, she was a friend. She was everything to everyone she knew. We are so proud to know that her legacy will be shared with other students through the scholarship.”

Blinn’s Licensed Vocational Nursing Program consists of classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the Brenham and La Grange communities are utilized for clinical rotations. Students spend 35-40 hours each week in scheduled, attendance-mandatory activities.

The program’s first semester includes 10 courses, and students must pass all their classes to advance to the next semester. To pass, students must score at least a 75 percent, and the program also features a strict attendance policy.

The Foundation supports programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. While raising funds is an important function, the Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.

Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has raised more than $13 million for Blinn. Those funds have been used to help launch major construction projects across Blinn’s campuses, including the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.

An additional $1 million has been spent purchasing classroom equipment and supplies requested by Blinn faculty.
