BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS LEASE OF OLD LANDFILL

The lease of the city’s old landfill property will be discussed tomorrow (Thursday) when the Brenham City Council meets.

The council will go into executive session to discuss the possible lease of nearly 110 acres which used to be the city landfill off Old Navasota Road, to Roy Burger, owner of RB Films Productions.

City Manager Terry Roberts says the property could be used by Burger for the filming of the movie, “The Burning of Brenham”…

Roberts says there is plenty of property to lease it for the movie’s production.

Following their closed door discussions, the council will then reopen the regular session to vote on the matter.

The council is also expected to approve filing for two grants for the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and from the Brazos Valley Community Impact Grant Program.

Roberts says the grants could help greatly with updating the technology available at the local library…

The Brenham City Council meets tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 1:00 at Brenham City Hall on West Vulcan St.

  1. In an effort to clarify. In the above post people are talking about cameras in numerous locations. Those are not cameras and the city did not install them. They are installed by the state (TXDOT). They are sensors that help cycle the traffic lights to be more efficient and in sync with the traffic flow. Our city staff checked with local TXDOT engineer and they advised the sensors do not record any information. They simply help traffic move more efficiently. I hope this helps to alleviate the above concerns. Respectfully, Rex Phelps

    1. I am well aware of the traffic control cameras; however, these cameras were recently installed on top of a pole at each of the aforementioned intersections, and are in addition to the traffic control cameras located over the traffic signals. What are these new cameras and what is their function? Thank you.

    2. What would really make traffic more efficient would be to replace the four and three way stops and install signals with sensors along Business 36 and upgrade all the signals along Business 290 to have these sensors.

  2. Just an F Y I for people talking about Cameras , If you are referring to ( and you may not be) the things on top of the Red Lights around town, Those are actually sensors that can change to light. It senses that there are no cars coming from a certain direction and that there are cars at the other direction, so it switches the light to Green on the side with the cars.. Those ( if that is what you are referring to) are not cameras… You may be talking about something else , But I have not seen any cameras.

  3. Mayor. I have heard about the new cameras being installed all over town. Is this part of RB Films Productions or is this part of Brenham surveillance by our city? Cameras are at Tom Green and Blue Bell, Stone at Blue Bell, Main at Blue Bell, Day at Stone, Tom Green at Market. Maybe even more. Are we going Hollywood here in Brenham or super surveillance?

    1. I’m glad to see that someone else has noticed the cameras. Word around the community is the new police chief is having these installed for surveillance to help lower the crime rate that rose under the watch of the previous chief. I wish City leaders would address this with the community and let us know how much of our tax dollars are being spent on the cameras.
