BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HEAR QUARTERLY FINANCES, TUESDAY

A review and discussion of the second quarter financial report tops the agenda for Thursday’s meeting of the Brenham City Council.

Chief Financial Officer Carolyn Miller reports that for the second quarter, the city experienced favorable net revenues over expenditures in the General Funds as well as all five utility funds.

Miller also reports that with the recent economic troubles that have hit Brenham, the city is expected to closely monitor the fund performance and reduce expenditures to mitigate any negative impact.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda, the council is expected to approve a 10-year extension with Southern Flyer Inc., for Jack and Janet Hess to continue as the Fixed Base Operator for the Brenham Airport.

The Hess’ have been serving in that capacity since their first five-year contract in 2000.

The council is also expected to discuss a gas and diesel contract for the city’s vehicles; a one-year extension for bulk water and wastewater treatment chemicals; and, discuss minor modifications for the parklet project for the new restaurant on Baylor Street in downtown Brenham.

The City Council is also expected to go into executive session to discuss the possible sale of 15 city-owned lots totaling nearly five acres.

The Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1:00 at City Hall on West Vulcan St.

  1. Voter and Wake-up,
Hang in there. You are right !!!!
Our Local Government is outgrowing the population.
If we don’t slow down we will be broke like California and have more of their corruption too.

  2. That’s right, never vote for the incumbent…. Most ridiculous thing anyone has ever dared to put in print. If you never vote for an incumbent, you never have experience in dealing with problems that face our government. Do you really think that Brenham isn’t growing? Do you really think that it’s smart to look at everything as it sits now rather than how it may be in a year or ten years from now? I’m not at all saying our city’s administration is perfect, but I’m sure as hell glad neither of you are running things…

  3. Right on citizen! And the ONLY way to stop these extravagant bureaucrats is this: NEVER vote for the incumbent. Why is property that the taxpayers OWN being sold behind closed doors? They are counting on taxpayer apathy. They will continue to INCREASE our taxes, and their PROFIT producing utilities will go up before the year is done. WASTE! Overhiring managers, etc. it will not stop until the voters say enough and demand that their council gets a new city manager.

  4. Wake Up Citizens and Tax-Payers. It is further evident as our small town government outgrows our small town population and becomes this humongous big city government that the Brenham government officials are grabbing onto and squeezing every cent out of every asset available. Selling lots that they do not disclose locations, creating rental areas in hard to come by downtown parking space. What happens when the well goes dry? They don’t worry, since they will be retired after they have ran it in the ground.
