  1. it is very sad that this service was taken away from us. they did not take in consideration that we have a lot of assisted living personnel hear that may need that attention . this is why it is so important that we look at the paper besides the total headlines that only pertains to us, it is sad that it took this tragic incident for the community to open their eyes. we need to get together as citizens to go to County Commissioners meetings and city council meetings to get this changed the voice of the community who elected these officials need to be heard.

  2. Why wasn’t this in the news to the downgrade of the hospital so that people can go somewhere else to survive a trauma? Its real sad for a city of this size to have no real hospital.

  3. Yes, what a terrible lost, Keith was a nice young man respectful and polite. This should be a very big eye opening for our young men, while they are out there they should remember there families and that people really do care about them and you always have the haters, at this day and time their is no talking or solving the issue, it always comes to someone losing their life.
Young people know that your family cares for you and that GOD loves you also, REST IN PEACE
Prayers to his WIFE and other family.

  4. It is true….Scott & White Hospital in Brenham no longer has a surgeon “on call” for the emergency room. Previously two surgeons rotated being “on call”. As a result, Brenham’s emergency room has been downgraded from a level three trauma center, to a level two.

    1. You mean it’s now a level 4 trauma center. It goes the other way, for example, Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston is a level 1 trauma center.

  5. “Fact Check” needs to get up to date. Scott and White discontinued the service of our two fine surgeons several months back.

  6. “ME” needs to know the facts. There are TWO surgeons who are on call for Scott & White Hospital – Brenham. They rotate call and one of them is ALWAYS available. Our community is blessed to have wonderful, caring, and dedicated medical professionals at our disposal at all times!!

    1. “Fact Check” please explain which one of those TWO caring, ALWAYS available surgeons responded to the call that night.

    2. Check your facts Fact Check!!! Interesting that Scott and White has not publicly announced their change as of Dec. 1st. There are no Emergency on-call surgeons in Brenham any more. Scott and White isn’t willing to pay for the service in Brenham and obviously doesn’t want Brenham residents to know that fact. They want everyone in our area to have to go to the new hospital in College Station. We still have doctors here but our Emergency room has been down graded to a lesser level and there will not be any surgeons on call for late night and weekend emergencies, That means that our EMS costs and effectiveness will also go up because the more serious patients will have to go to College Station. Many already do, but how terrible will it be when your loved one or a friend needs a surgeon for acute appendicitis, for example, and it ruptures en-route to CS because there isn’t a surgeon available in Brenham. What Scott and White also didn’t think about in their decision to terminate emergency surgical services is that our hospital helps residents of all of the surrounding communities. Ask one of our local surgeons. Scott and White has chosen to take services away from our hospital to save money and build up their new facility.

      1. Good thing to know, not that I would choose that facility anyway unless I could not possibly get to another hospital because I know that their emergency room is not that great either. Does no one understand that the small hospitals CAN handle routine after-hours emergencies w/o having to ship to another big-town hospital IF there is a surgeon on-call? For example – appendicitis. If this is so true, this is an awful thing to do just to promote use of your newest facility in College Station. SHAME on the Scott & White Health system! I’m so glad I don’t have S&W health insurance so I don’t have to be at their mercy!

  7. My prayers are with his family, especially his mother, wife & children. No matter what, nobody deserves to die in that manner. He has family who love him & are hurting. We ,as a community, should wrap our arms around them & pray for their strength during this time of bereavement. Also, this should serve as a powerful lesson to other young men(of all races) that life is precious, cherish it.

  8. May he RIP and my heart and prayers go out to the family ! I hope they the killers get caught and sounds like foul play thou !

  9. It would be nice if there had been a surgeon at Scott and white hospital in Brenham. They have no on call surgeons. None. Go to college station if it’s serious.
