BRENHAM P.D. INVESTIGATES SUNDAY ROBBERY

ย ย

Brenham Police are investigating a robbery Sunday night.

A woman tells police that she had cashed a check at the Center Drive-In on Alamo Street.

She says she was walking along the 700 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway just after 5:30, when a man hit her and took her money.

Brenham Police say they are continuing their investigation and expect an arrest soon.

  1. I have to agree that some are overly critical of our local police. The men and women who make up the BPD and Sheriff’s Dept. have a tough job. We have a relatively small overall population, with more than the national average of diversity. Statistics show that increases the crime rate. Fortunately our population is spread out over a fairly large area, which statistics show to decrease the crime rate. Nonetheless, Brenham has too much crime but I’m sure the police are working as hard as they can everyday.

Officers patrolling areas will only do so much to discourage crime. The criminals are going to steal, rob and kill somewhere at sometime. It is the duty of citizens to keep ourselves and our families safe. I for one would NEVER go to certain areas day or night. Nor would I recommend anyone else who values their safety and personal possessions do so. Do I think that it’s acceptable for a place to make me feel that way in a small town like this? No, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Also, be smart about things you do such as cashing checks. Check cashing places are an obvious target for thieves. Go to your bank where it is harder for someone to know what you are doing there. I’m sure the thief in this robbery was in the store watching the woman cash the check.

  2. Let’s not be too harsh on Washington County law enforcement. The real problem is in the home, and especially the many, many fans of Benjamin Spock.

  3. I have to say that I have had problems in my neighborhood with people stealing right of my front porch. I called Brenham PD, not because I wanted my $20 item back, but because I was tired of the riff-raff always going up and down my street. They took notice and it wasn’t long before a street lamp was installed in a dark spot by my house and the crime-factory-drug-house losers packed up and moved away. It’s much quieter here now. We do still have problems, but they can’t be fixed by sitting in your house with the shades drawn like a fraidy-cat. If you see something that isn’t right, that is harming other citizens…say something. BPD does pay attention and they do care.

  4. Concerned Taxpayer (A title that could apply to myself and many others), you gotta wander what is going on as we seem to be facing increasing crime rates in our city. I go past the $6,000,000 police palace every morning very early and see lots of shiny new parked police vehicles in the parking lot. Then you look at all the fancy vehicles out at parades, and other public events and the department seems to have a wealth of equipment. Then you get pictures of the police chief sitting in a very nice office with large dual monitor computer screens on his desk. You really have to ask yourself if funding is really the problem.

When I do see the police out in the community, they seem to be spending a lot of time on traffic (revenue) patrol. I have to think that if these cars (an the officers who drive them) spent less time on the parking lot and more time in the areas where crime is actually taking place, we might see our crime rates going down. Just saying……………

    1. Police palace sounds nice. Maybe it is a good thing we gave them a building to work in that everybody else had to move out of because it was not suitable to work in anymore. Theres a thought there to consider. I like seeing the shiny cars that they have because it means that they are taking care of the equimpment that they are issued. I kind of see it that you’re complaining that they get new cars. Why don’t we give them junk vehicles that barely run, and when it breaks down when you need help you can figure out how to take care of it on your on. Also all the fancy vehicles for the parades were donated. Maybe if you would ask the right questions you would have known that. As far as daul monitiors go, obviously you don’t work enough with computers. Most setups run dual monitors, due to the multiple programs that are running that the person needs to use. I can name mulitple places where dual monitors are used.

Now lets think about this for a second. Officers on traffic patrol. How many drunks get pulled over because traffic stops? How many wanted people get located on traffic stops? How much drugs are found on traffic stops? How do criminals move from point A to point B. Well sometimes they use public roadways to get there. A police officer can stop them on traffic patrol and it can lead to something bigger. Like locating stolen property in the vehicle and dealing with the crimnal and locating the property at the same time.

Why would police officers have there cars parked at the police department. Of course they could be inputing the information in to their system about the crimes that occured. But they again that would be logical. Completely the opposite of your views apparently. Also, I have seen the police riding bicycle through neighbors had night time trying to catch people. I have seen them driving through the areas where the crimes are taking place at. It might help if people actually lock there doors to their vehicles. Maybe get an alarm system to help deter criminals when they try to break in to buildings. The police can only do so much when there is a hand full of them working dealing with multiple other problems. How about you ride around town at night and look for the criminals your self if you don’t like the job that they’re doing. Better yet, how about instead of talking about how they don’t do their job. You can go become a police officer and make the change yourself. Now theres a thought. Good forbid then cause you’ll be working long hours. Missing holidays time with family and who knows what else. Then of course every one will scrutnize what you do and how you do, and try to make you seem like you don’t know how to do your job. Me on the other hand, I would like to say, “THANK YOU!!” to each and every officer that we have in Brenham and Washington county for what they do. I am sorry for some of the citizen’s that feel that you don’t do your job. Nothing like being an internet warrior. How about you go up to the Police Palace and speak to some of the officers and see what they have to say face to face and tell them what you really think about them. Now theres a thought isn’t it.

This is why there is such a problem with society now a days. Everybody has a single point of veiw and won’t look at the big picture.

  5. Concerned Taxpayer I also am concerned about the increasing crime rate in our city I have been a victim and the PD would not listen to me when I tried complaining to them about the officer that handled my case who was non caring and sarcastic so if they don’t want to help me a tax payer why should I help them??

  6. Very likely the case of the young man who was murdered last week may be solved by another criminal playing “lets make a deal” with a prosecutor. Many drug related violent crimes are solved that way. This will be a good thing. However, it is rarely revealed to us locally that this was the case. So we believe that is good police work that has solved the crime. It would be better if the taxpayer could be informed either way. A cooperative public coming forth with valid information about unsolved crime is also the responsibility of each citizen.

  7. Db,
I’m sure that if you would like to lend your assistance the Brenham Police Department they would gladly except your help. The police department is working diligently to solve these crimes along with all the other crimes reported. So many complain that the police aren’t doing their job but offer nothing but criticism and hide behind their locked doors and point fingers! Maybe you should wonder what it would be like without the local law enforcement doing all they can and being understaffed and underfunded in an ever increasing population and criminal element in our community. That’s something to think about.

  8. Here goes the Part I crime stats that BPD is always bragging about how low they are! Seriously after all these crimes, burglaries, robberies, thefts, and now a murder what does this tell us! Someone is not doing their job!! Then to top it off this will be the 2nd unsolved mutder within the last 2 years… Something to think about taxpayers…..

    1. Who says either murder is unsolved? Have you ever worked a murder investigation? ( sitting on your couch watching CSI doesn’t count. You should really gather more facts before you share an uninformed opinion. All crimes aren’t solved in 30 minutes ( minus commercials) some take forensic evidence from the crime lab in Austin. That evidence can take up to a year to get back. I invite you to come fight crime for just one day and see how you fair.

      1. Yeah. Lets think about getting more police. How many police officers are there per person in this county? You expect them to be able to deal with a million things at one time, and they your mad because they can’t. Burglaries will go down if majority of people lock there car doors and stop leaving them unlocked. Thefts and burglaries will go down if we (the citizens) pick up the phone and make a call about someone looking in cars, or stealing something, or something that doesn’t look right. Instead majority of people shut the blinds and act like its not really happening. Ohh! So someone gets murdered and obviously the police are not doing there job. Thats right. Because they must have some kind of amazing super power that lets them be every where in town at any given single second in time while there dealing with other calls that they have. What could I have been thinking. Think logically for once in your life, before you sound like a complete idiot. We all have our own opinion, and thats mine.
