According to Brenham Police Chief Rex Phelps, authorities were called out to the intersection of Seelhorst and Dark Streets just before midnight, where they discovered the body of 20-year old Trey Alan Kurtz of Houston.

Kurtz was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

Emergency Communications had received a 9-1-1 call about a body lying in that intersection.

According to Phelps, a witness says they heard what sounded like a gun shot in the area about an hour before Kurtz’ body was discovered.  Another witness says they saw a car speeding east on Seelhorst  just after the shot was heard.

Kurtz’ body has been taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner in Austin for autopsy.

Blinn President Dr. Harold Nolte issued a statement late Friday saying, “The Blinn College family is saddened to learn today that a student enrolled on our Brenham campus has passed away. The College extends its heartfelt condolences to the student’s family and friends during this difficult time, and Advising & Counseling services will be available to all students to provide support as they grieve the loss of their friend and classmate.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Brenham Police at (979) 337-7272.

  1. For the sake of this young man’s family I hope BPD asks the Rangers for some help on this investigation so they can find the person(s) responsible for this murder since the last one they had in December of 2013 no one has been arrested for. Hope for that man’s family that they haven’t forgot about it!!

    1. Oh yea cause the police are going to forget a murder case. There’s some logic there for you. The Rangers where on scene for the last one also. Maybe you should’ve watched the news and you would’ve seen them there. If you feel they’re not doing there job. How about you solve the crime yourself, and see you make and arrest for it. I have faith in the Police and the District Attorney’s office the the suspect will be found and will prosecuted accordingly.

  2. What a sad story and a terrible end to this mans life. On top of that, it’s scary that another murder has occurred in our town. I’d say that due to the location of the murder that this may have been a transaction that turned into a robbery and murder. This young man may have went with someone he knew from Blinn to meet someone else to make a purchase, but the seller had other intentions and didn’t want a witness. Hopefully one of his friends knows who he was out with and will come forward and tell the police. Had this happened in a different neighborhood, the people who heard a gunshot might have called the police and this mans life could have been saved.

  3. Scary to think we have an unknown murderer in our city/county., I feel confident that
This is being investigated thoroughly and the person/persons responsible will be found. Our law enforcement doesn’t give up.

  4. Unfortunately, Brenham is not the safe little town it once was. There is entirely too much riffraff going on in plain sight! The police force and the county are so strapped for cash that they aren’t able to adequately patrol as necessary. You can literally drive around and see things changing hands at certain establishments in plain sight during the day. Between car thieves, drugs, and weapons the people need to be aware of what is going on around them. The crime is out there and the criminals are out and up to no good. The Sheriff’s deputies and the police are doing a great job, but we need more of them. It’s time to pay up and do what is best for the greater good of the community.

  5. My first reaction was, “Oh no! Not here in Brenham!”
I am so sorry for the loss and trauma this young man’s family is having to go through. Losing a family member under any circumstance is difficult, but this is almost unbearable.
Rest in PEACE, Trey and I pray your family and friends know they and you are with God.
