BUCCANEER MEN DOWN LONE STAR-TOMBALL, 112-105

Non-conference victory breaks a streak of four consecutive losses

 

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball was able to break a four-game losing streak and gain a little confidence after beating Lone Star College-Tomball 112-105 Saturday evening inside the P.E. Building.

The Buccaneers fought off a good effort from free-shooting Tomball to improve their overall record to 14-6 while the Region XIV record remains 4-6.

John Dewey did a good job of running the offense from the point guard position and still managed to score 27 points to lead the Buccaneers.

Jaequan Brown finished with 22 points while Morris Dunnigan added 20 points. James Harrison scored 12 of his 18 total points in the first half and Corey Henderson also reached double figures with 12 points in the win.

The game stayed fairly close early on as Blinn held an 18-13 lead but then followed that with nine consecutive points for a 27-13 lead with 11:23 left in the half. Harrison was big in the first half for Blinn with 12 points while Dunnigan added 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Tomball would cut into the Blinn lead before halftime but the Buccaneers were able to maintain a 52-45 advantage at the break.

The second half was a lot of back and forth scoring from both teams as Blinn held an 84-79 lead with 7:24 left in the game. That is when the Buccaneers reeled off a 14-2 run to take a 98-81 lead with 4:34 left.

Dewey put together an impressive second half with 19 points while Brown was able to chip in with 12 points in the final half. Tomball cut the Blinn lead down the in the final minutes but the Buccaneers were able to hold on for the seven-point victory.

Blinn will hit the road Wednesday, Jan. 27 with a game against Angelina College at 7:30 p.m. Angelina sits in second place in Region XIV South Zone with a 7-4 record after 11 conference games.
