BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS ROCK SCHOOL RENOVATIONS

The Burton School Board is expected to approve the next step in renovating the old “Rock” High School Building.

At their meeting Thursday night, the board is expected to review the project, then authorize architect Tim Gescheidle to begin the process of going out for bids.

Back in December, the board held a lengthy discussion with Gescheidle on renovations to the building.

Earlier last year, the board earmarked about half of a $1.6 million low-interest loan for facility improvements, including work on the building.

That work would include electrical service, wheelchair access and repairs to the stone veneer.

The Burton School Board meets Thursday night at 6:30 in the administration office on North Railroad Street.

  1. Burton ISD has not had a tax increase in five years or more. What you may be referring to is the valuation of your property. If you make improvements to your property, or property in your area sell for a good price, the value of your property will increase, thus you pay more in taxes.

You can appeal increases to your property evaluation, you may be eligible for Ag exemptions or for senior citizen or veteran exemptions.

    1. Burton ISD has not had a tax increase for the past several years. The value of your property may have gone up, which would mean you would have paid more in taxes. The value of your property is based on several factors including comparable sales of property near you, improvements to your property or mineral value increasing. The property values are determined in large part by Property Value Studies done by the State.

In this case, the improvements are being funded by a federally subsidized low interest loan at less than 4%. The loan will be repaid in part from savings from the installation of energy efficient air conditioners and lighting, plus a software program that manages them efficiently after hours, weekends and holidays.
