CITY CONTINUES TO ASSESS STORM DAMAGE

Brenham City officials continue to assess the progress of the city’s recovery from last week’s record rainfall and massive flooding.

City Manager Terry Roberts says it may be some time before the storm full impact can be realized.

Roberts told the city council Thursday, that the “deterioration is evident with the buckling of asphalt in places,” but added that some of the damage is not so obvious.

Just two streets inside the city limits remains closed for repairs, N. Park and a section of Burleson Street.

Roberts also informed the council that two of the three pumps at the Lake Somerville station sustained damage, and backups are now being used.

A broken water line at a Burleson Street creek crossing was washed out, causing one of the city’s towers to lose significant amounts of water.

Roberts’ report also indicated that the Brazos Valley Emergency Radio Communications were limited for a time because towers in Washington County were struck by lightning.

Roberts added that city equipment was damaged at the water treatment plant due to a large leak in the control building.

Hohlt Park’s walking trail sustained heavy damage and is presently closed until repairs can be made – the walking trail at Jackson Street Park is open.

Mayor Milton Tate declared the city a disaster area, which would make it eligible for federal funding if allocated.
