CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS LIBRARY EXPANSION AND RENOVATION PROJECT

The Brenham City Council will have discussion concerning items of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library Expansion and Renovation Project when they meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 1pm.

The Council will consider the acceptance of a $20,000 Bluebonnet Community Grant, to be used for audio and video technology of the library.

Also concerning the library will be the discussion and possibly accepting of donations for the Planned Park Development Project which would connect Fireman’s Park and the Nancy Carol Roberts Library.

The agenda also includes Change Order No 001 for the Library.

Collier Construction was awarded Bid # 15-006 for the Construction and Rehabilitation of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library at the April 2, 2015 Council meeting. The total bid amount awarded to Collier Construction was $3,108,000 which included the base bid of $3,083,000 and Alternate Number 1 in the amount of $25,000 for the Outdoor Reading Room. Collier has presented the first change order to the project which includes three Project Modification Proposals (PMP).

The Council will also possibly approve the termination of an Interlocal Agreement between Washington County and the City of Brenham for the maintenance of Law Enforcement Mobile Data Terminals and the EMS Mobile Data Terminals.

City IT Staff is working with County IT Staff on their migration plan to transfer communications to the County. It is part of the migration plan for the City and County to discontinue the Mobile Data Terminals, Interlocal Agreement before the New World Reporting Management System conversion. The NWRMS conversion is scheduled to be performed on January 18, 2016. The Interlocal Agreement between the City of Brenham and Washington County for the Maintenance of Law Enforcement Mobile Data Terminals requires 60-day notice of termination. City staff and County Staff both agree that the County should begin full support of their MDTs for law enforcement operations in the County.

Also in the works is a possible Interlocal Agreement between the City of Brenham and Washington County for sanitation services at the Citizen’s Collection Station.

The highlights of the agreement will determine the City’s responsibility to provide for maintaining and staffing the collection station,. The City will also be responsible for setting collection station rates and cover cost for operating and maintaining the station. In turn, the County will pay the City for the disposal of any non-compactible waste or brush delivered to the station by county departments or work crews.

  1. Surely the city council would not consider charging senior citizen home owners for brush disposal? County residents would be understandable.
