Maria Aguado scored the game winner with just 2:12 left, as she was able to take a rebound off a blocked shot and rip it into the University goal.

Brenham was able to hold off the Lady Trojans the rest of the way to pick up the win and advance to the Third Round.

The Cubettes (16-5-4) fell behind before most fans got to their seats.  The Lady Trojans scored the opening goal just 11 seconds into the game.

Kaitlyn Escobedo took a long pass on the opening kick, raced past the Cubettes’ defense and chipped the ball into the open goal.

University (15-7) controlled most of the first 20 minutes as they continually launched long passes and shots at the Brenham goal.

The Cubettes, though, got a break in the half’s 18th minute as Au’Dresha Spates took a pass from Ana Brans, worked past the defense and tied the game at 1-1.

A controversial foul on the Cubettes led to a University penalty kick which Natalie Gutierrez converted for a 2-1 Lady Trojan lead.

Seven minutes later, the Cubettes again tied the score as Ana Brans' corner kick found Spates for the header that tied the game at 2-2.

After Brenham took the lead on Aguado’s goal, University launch a final push toward the Cubettes’ goal, but the Brenham defense continually thwarted the Lady Trojans’ attack.

The game essentially ended with 20 seconds still on the clock and the ball deep in the Cubettes end.  University was awarded a throw-in in the Cubettes’ corner, but the players and coaches let the final 20 seconds tick away with the ball laying on the ground, as they argued with the referee over a handball they thought was not called.

The Cubettes advance to the third round against Palestine (1-0 winners over Brownwood).

The game is set for Thursday night at 7:00 at Waco Robinson.

KWHI's coverage begins with the pre-game show at 6:45.  The game can also be heard at www.kwhi.com.
