The Brenham Cubs finished up the 2014 regular season in fine fashion, ripping Caney Creek, 8-1.

Caney Creek countered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first.

The score remained 2-1 until the top of the fourth when Wellmann and Caleb Hill opened the inning with back-to-back doubles.  Hill then scored on Sam McElreath’s double.  McElreath then came home on a two-base error.

Rayne Richard
Rayne Richard had three hits and was the winning pitcher.

The Cubs put three more runs on the board in the top of the sixth.  McElreath’s second double scored Matt Zettle.  Jack Baker scored on Stegent’s squeeze bunt.  Richard closed out the scoring with an rbi-double.

Wellmann pitched two shutout innings for the Cubs, striking out four and giving up no hits.  Dylan Lester gave up no runs on one hit over an inning and two-thirds.

The Cubs banged out 14 hits en-route to the win.  Richard was 3-4; McElreath, Stegent and Wellmann each had two hits.

The Cubs now await their Bi-District opponents for next week’s playoff opener.
