Richard, the Cubs’ starting pitcher, limited the Panthers (5-18/4-12) to one unearned run over three innings. He gave up just two hits and struck out five in picking up the win (3-1).
The Cubs put three more runs on the board in the top of the sixth. McElreath’s second double scored Matt Zettle. Jack Baker scored on Stegent’s squeeze bunt. Richard closed out the scoring with an rbi-double.
Wellmann pitched two shutout innings for the Cubs, striking out four and giving up no hits. Dylan Lester gave up no runs on one hit over an inning and two-thirds.
The Cubs banged out 14 hits en-route to the win. Richard was 3-4; McElreath, Stegent and Wellmann each had two hits.
The Cubs now await their Bi-District opponents for next week’s playoff opener.
