CUBS TAKE AIM AT PLAYOFF BERTH
The Brenham Cubs still have a legitimate shot at a playoff berth.
Despite a 2-4 mark in District 19/5A play, the Cubs find themselves in position to make the post-season for the 12th-straight year.
First and foremost the Cubs (3-6) must defeat Spring Woods (2-7) Thursday night at Tully Stadium in Houston. Then, Friday night, Tomball Memorial must defeat cross-town rival Tomball, and district champ Stratford has to beat Waller.
If that were to occur, the Cubs would own the tie-breaker and advance to the Region III/5A Division II Bi-District playoffs.
If Spring Woods beats the Cubs, their playoff hopes are over.
If Tomball beats Tomball Memorial, the Cougars own the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Cubs.
If Brenham were in a three-way tie with Tomball Memorial and Waller, the Cubs would garner the playoff spot with a 2-0 record vs. the Mustangs and Bulldogs.
If Brenham were in a three-way tie with Tomball and Waller, the tie-breaker would come down to point differential, which is in favor of Tomball.
The last time the Cubs failed to qualify for the playoffs is 2003, when they were 5-5 following their first-ever trip to the State Championship game the previous season.
Thursday’s game can be heard on KWHI and www.kwhi.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30
