HOHLT PARK TRAIL MAY NOT BE FIXED UNTIL NOVEMBER

Brenham City officials say repairs to the walking trail at Hohlt Park will likely not be completed for at least four more months.

The trail was heavily damage in the May flooding.

The damage was so extensive that repairs must be designed by an engineer.

City Public Works Director Dane Rau says the cost of the project means an engineer must be hired and the project bid out.  Rau has been working with O’Malley-Strand Associates on the project.

Rau sayd the city plans to open bids on August 10th and award a contractor on Aug. 18th.

Rau says he expects the project getting started around Sept. 1st.

City Manager Terry Roberts said last month that the city planned to ask the FEMA to help fund the repairs.

  1. The City of Brenham does not have an engineer? I think its time to create an engineering dept and hire one. Its rare a city this size doesn’t have one.

  2. Say Whaat ???? Four Months ????
Just put down some base. Let the roller roll over it.
Then put down the aggregate. Let the roller roll over it.
Then …….Don’t worry about until another 500 year rain event.
This is a city park …….So…..Don’t make it a Federal Case.

    1. Exactly. But remember its the City of Brenham.. Nothing done here makes sense. Having the expense of an engineer to fix this is typical waste of money.

    2. Hiring an engineer and bidding the project out? The City needs to knock some of that dirt out of their ears and use their brains. Surely they still have the original plans as the park isn’t that old. This sounds like a waste of tax dollars. Hopefully FEMA will prevent the City’s wasteful spending.
