NO ONE SPEAKS AT PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE INCREASE

No one spoke today during the public hearing over the proposed tax rate increase by the city of Brenham. The city is proposing that the tax rate be increased by one cent to $0.517 per $100 valuation. Property appraisals within the city went up also this year by an average of 6 percent. With the increase in the rate, the average homeowner in the city will pay 7 percent more in property taxes this year.

The city says that the tax increase is necessary to cover various infrastructure projects along with the addition of several part-time positions needed to maintain services.

The second required public hearing on the tax rate increase is scheduled for the September 7th City Council meeting.

  1. I’m voting next time for politicians who will work on real problems, like taxes, instead of pointless social morality legislation.

  2. They raise taxes but local business only give 3% raises if that and it doesn’t even cover the increased cost of living. Sad Brenham

  3. Or we knew it just doesn’t matter, they will raise and raise we can’t do nothing about it.

  4. Must be that everyone that complains about taxes in these comments was at work and couldn’t attend, right?

    1. I was working and not able to make it, but would it had made any difference.
The Brenham EDC needs to bring more new business home to assist the home owners tax burden

    2. When has it ever changed anything to speak. Have to stay at work to pay these taxes… or sell out. That way I could just rent and not worry about the taxes and upkeep. I could spend money on partying and only have to pay taxes on stuff one time. But stupid me, I’ll just keep paying taxes on the same thing over and over and working my tail off.
