Washington County commissioners have heard requests from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the County Jail for increases in their budgets for 2014-15.
The Sheriff’s Department is requesting two new deputies.
Sheriff Otto Hanak says the additions would drastically cut overtime and would help with enforcement of weights and measures laws involving trucks passing through Washington County.
Hanak says between the overtime and tickets from trucking violations, the new officers and reassignment of responsibilities would likely cover the cost.
The sheriff’s office is also requesting the creation of a new lieutenant position to oversee the day-to-day operations of the office.
The Washington County jail is requesting a new transport vehicle and a set of two washers and two dryers. Jail officials says they could purchase one washer and dryer each year, and could accept an older sheriff’s office vehicle as long as the mileage was in the 70,000 to 80,000 mile range.
