WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL PASSES SURPRISE INSPECTION

The Washington County jail was given a “surprise inspection on June 26th, and for the third year in a row, the jail passed inspection.

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak says that the goal was to bring the jail up to standards with “regards to supervision, professional service, safety for staff members, as well as appearance and cleanliness”.

In a released from the Sheriff’s office on Monday, the letter went on to say that “ the Sheriff’s office staff has provided countless hours of labor and dedication to, not only meet this goal, but to exceed most expectations. Incidentally, the jail, which opened in 1993, is being re-painted and updated by inmate and staff labor and this tedious and difficult task is approximately 90% complete. We have estimated the savings to taxpayers to be over $250,000.00 with just this one of numerous projects performed each day".

"I commend our entire jail staff and their leadership for taking all necessary steps to make sure the jail continues to pass this critical inspection as well as providing professional service. We are also thankful to our staff members for taking the initiative to make sure our tax dollars are being spent wisely during the daily operations of the jail.”
