HIGHWAY 36 REHAB TO BEGIN

The Texas Department of Transportation’s ‘safety project’ to install a traffic signal at Business 36 and Highway 36 in Brenham is expected to begin Monday, weather permitting.

TxDot calls this $3.6 million project a ‘major rehabilitation’. The contractor, Knife River from Bryan will install a traffic signal at Business 36 and Highway 36.  There is much more.  TxDot plans to demolish the overpass where the Highway 36 north leads out of Brenham to Somerville and replacing it with a ‘T’ intersection.  The traffic lights are to ensure the safety of drivers onto both Business 36 and Highway 36.

The project is expected to be completed in 2015.

  1. You know I didn’t want to go through the process and add myself to any news reply section in order to make a “free speech”, because I really don’t think it’s free (in a sense) and when it can be traced back to the writer, if you say something wrong. I like it when you just can post and if the media screener’s read it and it’s not proper for the public (profane, racist, etc.), they delete it.

Nevertheless, I’m here with Mr. Baker, “this is the stupidest thing I’ve heard”! They (TXDOT), want to tear down an overpass to build a “T” intersection. DUDE, REALLY???????? I’m sure they can come up with a way to put up another bridge for those coming from Holt Park to turn around and go to Austin, or those that live at the beginning of the spilt to turn and go to Austin. What if they “built” or made the lane different to provide an exit ramp and turn-a-round just pass the intersection? Wow, look-ah-there problem solved!!!!!! It’s not like the state is not already hurting for money, might as well make it possible to use the road the right way in case there is another roadblock with hurricane evacuees heading out of town. We should be thinking about eliminating the dumb clover-leaf at 290 and 36 near Westwood.

What about a streetlight at 36 and Horton loop (577), near the elementary school? Have you tried turning from 36 southbound onto 577 at night? You can’t see where the road is? Oh, TXDOT don’t ride at night? Well, I could go on and on, but I have to stop there. Hopefully, other people will chime in, but sometimes, those that are in charge will have their way anyway, because it’s what the people in that office want…….(sometimes, may not be this office or people, but you know).

  2. One of the dumbest plans I’ve heard. We just need a way to turn left. We don’t need to destroy the easy transitions onto 36 north from town, and onto Business 36 coming into town. This is not quite as stupid as the new entry/exit ramps off of 290, but close. Does anyone at TxDot, or other traffic planners, have an ounce of common sense?
