LOCAL TRYOUTS SATURDAY FOR GO TEXAN JUNIOR RANCH SORTING

Area youths are invited to compete Saturday for a place on the Washington County Junior Ranch Sorting Team.  Once selected, the team will represent our community in the Finals for the 2014 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Go Texan Ranch Sorting Contest.

Tryouts are free of charge and they will be held Saturday at the Lucky Circle M Ranch, 7250 Dill Hill Lane, in Old Washington.

To be eligible for tryouts, contestants must be residents of Washington County and between the ages of 8 and 17 as of September 1st, 2013.  Each contestant must have a parent or guardian to sign a release form.

Eligible participants are welcome to arrive at 10:30am to practice with the professional trainers at Lucky Circle M Ranch.

Contestants in the tryouts will be evaluated on their horsemanship, teamwork and ability to cleanly sort the calves in the arena.  Those with the top three scores will become the Washington County Junior Ranch Sorting Team, to compete in the Finals against all other Go Texan Ranch Sorting teams in Texas.  Mark Mazzella of the Ranch says this is a friendly competition to see which team will go to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Mazzella says it is a type of rodeo competition that is not seen very much, but it is an important part.

Finals will be held on Saturday, January 25th at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy.  All entry fees for the Washington County team will be paid by the local Go Texan Committee.

Each member of the winning team, in the championship round, will be awarded a trophy saddle.  Additionally, funding will be awarded to their area Go Texan Committee for local scholarships.
