CASA FOR KIDS LOOKING FOR AFRICAN-AMERICAN VOLUNTEERS
Julie Overstreet of the area office of the Court Appointed Special Advocates, of CASA For Kids, says they need more African-American families to become foster homes.
She says African-American children in foster care often lose touch with parts of their culture and community traditions when they are removed from their homes. She says they want the children to be safe but also aware of their backgrounds and their history.
CASA for Kids volunteers are professionally trained to advocate for children in foster care. They become familiar with one child or sibling group and speak to everyone involved in the children’s lives, including family members, teachers , doctors, lawyers social workers and others.
