BLINN TO HOST ONLINE,FACE-TO-FACE SESSIONS FOR VOCATIONAL NURSING STUDENTS

The Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) programs on Blinn College’s Brenham campus are currently hosting online and face-to-face information sessions for prospective students interested in a nursing career.

The online information session is available now through Jan. 29, 2015 and can be found at: www.blinn.edu/twe/vocn_brenham/2015-LVN-Online-Info-Session/index.html. Participants should allow themselves approximately one hour to complete the online info session, which includes the same information as is distributed at the face-to-face sessions. Applicants must score a 75 percent or higher on the quiz at the end of the online info session and submit a certificate of completion to begin the Fall 2015 application process.

The Brenham campus LVN Program will host its face-to-face information sessions at 9 a.m. on Jan. 7, Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 in Room 205 of the Arts & Sciences Building on the Brenham campus (map). The Bryan campus LVN Program will host its face-to-face sessions at 1 p.m. Jan. 7, Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 in Room 3510 of the Health Science Center Clinical Building I located at 8441 State Highway 47 in Bryan.

Due to limited seating, face-to-face info session participants must register in advance. To register, visit www.blinn.edu/twe/vocn_brenham for the Brenham campus program or www.blinn.edu/twe/vocn/index.html for the Bryan campus.

Over the past three years, 98.5 percent of Blinn vocational nursing graduates from both campuses have passed the National Council Licensing Examination on the first attempt, earning commendation from the Texas Board of Nursing. The national average is approximately 84 percent.

The 12-month program’s first semester includes 10 courses, and students must pass all their classes to advance to the next semester. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination and the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination, and will be considered an LVN after successfully passing the examination.

The vocational nursing program consists of classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences, some of which begin at 6:30 a.m. Hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the region are utilized for clinical rotations. Students are expected to spend 35-40 hours each week in scheduled, attendance-mandatory activities.

Graduates who pass their state board exams are qualified to work in home health, dialysis, hospitals, clinics and physicians’ offices.

Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences offers associate degree nursing, dental hygiene, emergency medical services, physical therapist assistant, radiologic technology, fire science, therapeutics manufacturing, veterinary technology and vocational nursing programs designed to quickly train students for high-demand professions.
