BRENHAM FUSION UNIT MAKES NARCOTIC BUST

Officer Kevin Mertz with the Fusion Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of W. Alamo.

The passenger, twenty-six-year year old Ernest James Deaver, Jr. of Brenham had several active warrants. During a search, Mertz found several hundred dollars in his pocket, in small denominations, which is common among drug dealers.

Deaver refused to allow Mertz to search the vehicle, so Officer Mark Pierce and his K9 partner, Sammy were called to the scene. During a free air sniff, Sammy alerted to narcotics in the vehicle. During a search Mertz found 1.8 grams of crack cocaine along with over $7,000 in cash.

Along with the cash found on Deaver, a total of $7,735 was seized. Deaver has been charged with money laundering (over $1500 and under $20,000 – a state jail felony) and with the manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance (over 1 gram and under 4 – a second degree felony.)
