BLINN’S HODDE CENTER TO HOST CANCER EXERCISE TRAINER WORKSHOP
Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center is partnering with the American College of Sports Medicine to host a two-day American Cancer Society Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer Workshop April 17-18.
Cancer exercise trainers design and administer fitness assessment and exercise programs specific to a client’s cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery status while utilizing a basic understanding of cancer diagnoses, surgeries, treatments, related symptoms and side effects.
The two-day workshop prepares attendees for the certification exam required for licensure, and provides exercise testing/training techniques specific to the population. The workshop includes a high-level review of common cancer types and cancer biology, the immediate and long-term effects of cancer treatment, exercise programming, fitness and psychological assessments and techniques, a review of the knowledge, skills and abilities of the certified cancer exercise trainer and a forum for new knowledge and skills to help participants effectively work with cancer patients. The workshop will also touch on the business-related aspects of the profession.
The $275 workshop will take place from 1-9:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, and from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18. To register, visit www.acsm.org or call 800-486-5643. For more information on the workshop, visit www.fitnessEdNet.com.
