TWO KILLED IN SEPARATE GRIMES COUNTY ACCIDENTS

  

Two persons were killed in separate automobile accidents Saturday in Grimes County.

The first accident was seven miles west of Carlos on Texas 30 around 12:39 am, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Thirty-nine year old Iola resident Charles Matthew Dewett, who was driving a 2000 Hyundai eastbound when he turned left in from of a 2014 Chevrolet heading westbound.

The driver of the Chevrolet, nineteen-year old Mary Williams, hit Dewett’s car on the passenger side. Dewett was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Williams, as well as her sibling passenger, sixteen-year old James Michael Williams were transported to St. Joseph’s hospital in Bryan with non-life threating injuries.

The second accident occurred two miles east of Plantersville on Texas 105.

Nineteen-year old Mikayla Rose Thomson, of Montgomery, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord eastbound when she veered to the left, overcorrected and crossed into oncoming traffic.

Seventy-two year old Jane Hays, of Belton was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a twelve-year-old passenger when Thomson’s vehicle hits Hays’ car head-on, killing Thomson.

Hays was taken to the hospital in unknown condition with serious injuries. The twelve-year olds condition was unknown.

All parties were wearing seatbelts, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
