BLINN FOUNDATIONS SEEKS COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS

  

The Blinn College Foundation is asking the community to match a $25,000 gift from the A.W. Hodde, Jr. family to provide workforce education scholarships for local job seekers who have recently been laid off.

Hodde, an inductee into the Blinn Hall of Honor and its 2010 person of the year, and his wife Virginia donated $25,000 to be used for scholarships for job seekers to attend the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center.

“We’re taking a lead role in helping to put people back to work,” said Susan Myers, executive director of the Blinn Foundation. “Blinn College is using its expertise and asking the community to donate so that everyone can be a part of keeping residents in this area and giving them job opportunities they might not have without this training.”

The 12,000-square foot Hodde Center was built in 2009 to provide local training for a quality, viable workforce in Washington and the surrounding communities, and offers courses in career development, computers, health professions, manufacturing, welding and safety. The scholarships will be available to residents of Blinn’s 13-county service area and can be used toward any of the Hodde Center’s career training programs. In addition to these scholarships, the Hodde Center offers scholarships through private grants, Workforce Solutions and Accelerate Texas.
