FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SHUTS DOWN EBAY SCAM

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that the Sheriff’s office has stopped an elaborate EBay scam.

Deputies received several out-of-state reports of items ordered on EBay, being shipped to an address in Fayette County, without payment being received.

After a lengthy investigation, it was learned that the items were being shipped to the Fayette County address in order for the person to turn to mail the items to Nigeria.

Deputies recovered several items from this residence, which are in the process of being returned to the rightful owners.

Sheriff Korenek reports that the Fayette County citizen had met the subject on Facebook, in which the person was befriended, and asked to do a favor by having the items shipped to Nigeria, placing the citizen as a victim of this scam as well.

This investigation was conducted by Investigators Robert Dryden and Angela Lala and Deputy Garrett Durrenberger.

Sheriff Korenek reminds people to be aware of multiple scams going on, and to not give your viable information to anyone, and report any suspicious activity to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
