Thumann money story
Sgt. Thumann and Lobos with the confiscated cash.

Sgt. Thumann and Lobos discovered over a quarter million dollars in cash hidden in a mini-van last weekend.  Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sunday at approximately 6 p.m the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit stopped a Honda Odyssey van on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation.  After contact with the driver was made, several criminal indicators were observed and consent to search the vehicle was obtained. Sgt. Randy Thumann deployed his K9 Lobos to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann observed Lobos alert to the vehicle and followed the scent channel to the rear seats of the van. Sgt. Thumann then observed Lobos alert to the rear seats as being the source of the illegal odor. A search of the seat reveled approximately $290,000 of U.S. Currency sewed into the interior portion of the seats. The driver, Domingo Ortiz, age 45, of Mexico was arrested for Money Laundering and taken to the Fayette County Jail.
