BRENHAM ‘LOCAL HISTORY DAY’ TUESDAY & FRIDAY
Brenham is preparing for its fourth-annual Local History Day, Tuesday and Friday.
This year’s event features a new day of sessions for seventh graders, including: The Outlaws of Washington County; Texas Rangers; Uniforms and Weapons of Early Wars; Imagine Brenham in 1877; The Peoples of Washington County; and the movie, The Dawn of Washington County.
Organizers say the steady growth of the program over the past four years had been helped by the community and donations.
Bonnie Brinkmeyer of the BISD say Local History Day is, “a great adventure and learning experience for the students.”
About 725 students and teachers will attend the event this year.
The purpose of Local History Day is to teach students about local history in a memorable way, and the importance of the community to Texas history. Another primary goal is to reach parents with ideas for family outings to learn and enjoy the heritage.
About 150 community volunteers are part of Local History Day, working in various roles. Anyone interested in helping or learning more should contact Jennifer Eckermann at 337-7384 or Sharon Brass at 451-1459.
