BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES $50,000 DONATION TO POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Brenham City Council approved of a $50,000 donation to the Brenham Police Department during their meeting this afternoon (Thursday). Robbie Gail Charette offered the donation to assist in the needed training, equipment, and canine costs. The funds will be placed in the donation account for these specific uses.
Grady Hardeman Jr. asked the City to grant him a special use permit to allow for a church and related auxiliary uses on property located at 515 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. Hardeman was not in attendance during the meeting still leaving Council with many questions, leading to the tabling of this first reading.
In conjunction with Downtown Brenham’s “Hot Nights, Cool Tunes” concert series, the Council approved of a noise variance for Saturday July 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th. Council also approved the closing of one lane of Alamo Street from Park Street to Market street from 2:30pm to 11:30pm and then both lanes of Alamo Street from Austin Street to Market Street from 4:30pm to 11:30pm for the previously given dates.
A lease for hangar space at the Brenham Municipal Airport by Patrick and Deanna Murray was approved as well as new light poles and fixtures for the Bluebell Aquatic Center for $31,710. City Council approved a one year contract extension for bulk water treatment chemicals to Univar at $190/liquid ton with an estimated 300 tons to be purchased during the year.
During the work session of the meeting, Council members heard a presentation related to the 2014 annexation of one half acre of land along State Highway 36 into Brenham.
