COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION RECEIVES AWARD

  

The Washington County Commissioners presented the Texas Historical Commission’s Distinguished Service Award to the Washington County Historical Commission at their meeting this morning.  The award is for their historical preservation programs and this makes the 22nd consecutive year that the local Historical Commission has received it.  Dr. Wilfred Dietrich accepted the award and took a moment to talk about the Historical Commission’s latest project.  They hope to secure a historical marker for the Brenham Normal and Industrial College.  It was an African-American school established in 1906 and located near the current Blinn College.  Classes for grade school through post high school were taught there until 1927.

The County Commissioners appointed Wende Ragonis to serve on the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley Board of Directors.  She will be replacing Bonnie Weisler who is retiring.

County Commissioners also accepted the county’s group medical insurance rate for the upcoming plan year.  The insurance rate is actually 2 percent lower than the previous year due to a decreased number of claims.  The county will also receive a refund of $149,808.  The health insurance plan is administered through the Texas Association of Counties.
