ATTORNEYS REQUEST GAG ORDER IN SANDRA BLAND CASE
Attorneys for Waller County have requested a gag order in the Sandra Bland case in an attempt to help keep the case from being tried in the public. Waller County’s attorneys have asked a federal judge for the protective order in the lawsuit filed by Sandra Bland’s mother.
The request, filed on Thursday, asks the court to prohibit witnesses and lawyers from releasing discovery material to the media. In addition, attorneys are asking the court to seal all sworn depositions.
This comes as the Prairie View Police officer, Michael Kelley, claims Waller County’s top prosecutors threatened to end his career if he came forward with what he says is evidence of wrongdoing in the Sandra Bland case. Prosecutors strongly deny Kelley’s allegations, saying that Kelley is only coming forward to distract from his own indictment in a separate use-of-force case.
