SUDDENLINK COULD BE MOVING LOCAL OFFICE OUT OF BRENHAM

  

The local office of Suddenlink Communications could be closing down at year’s end if the Brenham City Council approves an amendment to the city’s cable television franchise.

At Thursday’s City Council meeting, the council will hear from Suddenlink’s Director of Operations Thomas Way, who informed the city that a restructuring means the local operation is now under the management in Bryan/College Station.

Way approached City Manager Terry Roberts in July, about the local office and told Roberts that the office traffic and the current subscriber count in Brenham makes it – according to Way – “nearly impossible, from a business cost perspective, to supports an office here.”

Way told Roberts and Assistant City Manager Ryan Rapelye that the amount of traffic in the local office didn’t warrant the expense of maintaining the office.

Way went on to say that most of the traffic was customers dropping off payments – which he says can be done at the local H.E.B. store, for a transaction fee of $2.

According to Roberts, the amendment to the franchise would mean closing the local office on East Main St., when the current lease runs out in December.

Roberts says Way has assured him that Suddenlink will still maintain the local technical staff that live and work in the Brenham area.  Way also says there will be increased support from the Bryan location.

The Brenham City Council will consider the franchise amendment when they meet Thursday afternoon at 4:00 at City Hall.
