FORMER CUB, BUCCANEER, DENVER BRONCO, JAMES WRIGHT DIES

A member of the Brenham Cubs Football Hall of Honor and a former player in the National Football League has died.
James Wright Jr., died Sunday afternoon at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston after a battle with Colon Cancer, he was 59 years old.
Wright was a standout at Brenham High School in the early 1970’s. He went onto Blinn College where he was a Junior College All-American 1975. He then transferred to TCU where he played in all 22 games in 1976 and ’77.
Wright was then selected in the seventh round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He was traded to the Denver Broncos where he played six seasons – starting 12 of 16 games in his final season, 1985. Wright caught a touchdown pass in the Broncos Division Playoff game in December of 1984 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wright was inducted into the Cubs Football Hall of Honor in 2005.
