SNOOK ISD TAX RATIFICATION ELECTION TODAY

The Snook Independent School District is holding a Tax Ratification Election today.

The Snook Independent School Board of Trustees has called the election to ask the community to consider a change in how the district collects taxes in an attempt to maximize state funding.

Local taxes go toward two main areas in the school district: maintenance and operations and interest and sinking. Maintenance and operations covers items like salaries, books and general building maintenance. Interest and sinking pays the debt on school bonds.

The district wants to increase the maintenance and operations tax rate because they receive a higher amount of state funding. The Board of Trustees says that the change would mean an additional $300,000 for the district annually, without having to increase taxes.

The election will take place this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on the Tax Ratification Election or for voting locations, visit snookisd.org.
