BRYAN TODDLER DIES AFTER BEING THROWN
A Bryan toddler died Thursday night, after police say he was abused and shaken.
The little boy, 21-month-old Jarek Cadena, was taken off life support after family gathered at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
Bryan Police believe he was abused by his mother’s boyfriend, 22-year-old Alex Balleno. According to a probable cause statement, Balleno, who had been watching the boy while his girlfriend was at work, told police the toddler started crying. In an “attempt to soothe him”, Balleno threw the baby up in the air. While doing this, Balleno said he stumbled and the baby fell head first onto the couch, before landing on the floor.

Balleno is charged with injury to a child. Currently, he remains in the Brazos County Jail on $100,000 bond.
The Bryan Police Department says the district attorney's office will most likely take another look at the charges when the case enters the indictment phase.
