GRIMES COUNTY RESIDENTS MEET WITH ENTERGY

  

Grimes County residents that could be impacted by the new 230 kV transmission line proposed by Entergy met with the company during an open house on August 25th.

Entergy representatives say that line will be approximately 30 to 50 miles long. It will extend through Montgomery, Grimes and Walker counties, depending on the route chosen by the Public Utility Commission. Maps at the meeting displayed the proposed routes between Lewis Creek and Shiro and the two location options for the Rocky Creek Substation.

The project was brought before the Grimes County Commissioners Court in May. Entergy representatives say the line would work to eliminate power congestion on the network throughout the region.

The company is in the early stages of planning and will review approximately 15 possible routes for the north Montgomery County transmission line. The estimated start date for operations to begin is in 2020.

A number of residents have launched a campaign on Change.org to express opposition to the proposed route. The opposition site states that towers running through the community and along 1097 as depicted on the map will impact the ambiance of the community. Residents went on to say that not only the look and feel of the community will be compromised, but it will present a safety hazard for the children of the community and ultimately lower the property values.
