BLINN STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO PHI THETA KAPPA

  

The Blinn College – Brenham campus chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) inducted 38 new members Tuesday night during a brief ceremony in the Janis Snead Banquet Room.ptk_program_2000x1188-copy

Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for two-year colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges. Founded in 1918, PTK promotes scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship among its members. To be accepted, students must carry at least a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) with at least 12 transferable hours.

Dillion Phipps, the Blinn PTK Advisor, says that Phi Theta Kappa provides different opportunities for students to develop and practice leadership skills. In addition to scholarship opportunities for students, PTK also has service opportunities available for student to help them be involved in improving Blinn College. For example, PTK members have established a mentoring program at Blinn that assists at-risk students and increases retention.

Tueday’s inductees from Washington County included: Lavina Dickinson (Brenham), Taylor Farmer (Brenham), Aaron Jantzi (Brenham), Allyson Jenkins (Brenham), Kirbie Kolkhorst (Brenham), Addison McCain (Brenham), Sam McElreath (Brenham), John Moorman (Brenham), Jovanna Ozuna (Brenham), Jacob Pannell (Brenham), Daisy Pizarro (Brenham), Riley Saunders (Chappell Hill) and Caleb Smith (Brenham).

Other inductees included: Taylor Adams (Bellville), Rebekah Ard (Baytown), Derek Bertsch (Columbus), Brianna Coleman (Bellville), Mona Desselle (Weimar), Jasmine Duarte (Pasadena), Sarina Fedelin (San Antonio), Luther Gill (Indianapolis, Ind.), Ryan Graham (Missouri City), Leialoha Granados (Spring), Katherine Green (Bellville), Jordan Jackson (Spring), Sam Junkin (Leander), Logan Kirk (Bellville), Elvia Manzano (Schulenburg), Cody Moos (Castroville), Andrew Neely (Round Rock), Colton Orsak (Snook), Monique Roberts (Placedo), Kodi Schroeder (Caldwell), Haley Shillow (Pfugerville), Levi Svrcek (Austin), Andre Taylor (La Grange) Kevin Tillery-Walker (Oak Ridge North) and Christopher Weatherford (Bellville).

Registration for Blinn’s Fall 12-week courses is open through Sunday, Sept. 18, while registration for eight-week courses is open through Wednesday, Oct. 19.
