WASHINGTON COUNTY READ TO HOST ACCLAIMED AUTHOR

  

Washington County READ will host the acclaimed author of the program’s chosen book during a reception on October 18th.

Tom Piazza will discuss his book, City of Refuge, at the free reception at Unity Theatre.  The novel, a fictional book, recounts the stories of two families before, during and after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Tom Piazza is the author of eleven books of fiction and nonfiction, including the novels A Free State, the Michener Award-winning story collection Blues and Trouble, the essay collection Devil Sent the Rain: Music and Writing in Desperate America, and his latest the Faulkner Society Award-winning novel, My Cold War. He was a principal writer for the HBO series Treme.  Piazza currently lives in New Orleans.

The Washington County READ encourages the community to read and discuss one book and to bring generations and diverse groups together to enjoy the benefits of reading.

Piazza will be signing copies of the book at the event. Books are available at the Nancy Carol Roberts Library, Blinn College Library, HEB and The Book Nook. In addition to the presentation by Piazza, Unity Theatre actors will read passages from the book and refreshments will be served.
