WASHINGTON COUNTY ASKING RAILROAD TO PAY FOR ROAD DAMAGES

Washington County is asking Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad to pay for damages to county roads caused by machinery used to repair a railroad bridge.ROAD2

The floods in May caused a railroad bridge over New Year Creek at Old Gay Hill Road to be washed out.

County officials say the estimated damage to the roads is $1.7 million. BNSF is expected to make a counter offer to the county’s proposed amount. The railroad company sent out a representative to survey the damage last week.
