HIGH SPEED INTERNET COMING TO BURLESON COUNTY SCHOOLS

Burleson County schools could have access to high speed internet by the end of this summer.

A multi-million federal grant obtained by the Brazos Valley Council of Government will help create a high-speed network- shaped like a figure eight- which runs through Washington, Burleson, Grimes, Madison, Leon, Brazos, and Robertson counties.

The grant approved high-speed internet fiber installation in several health care systems in the seven counties. School districts that provide school nurses qualify as health care networks, giving them access to the fibers.

Officials with the Brazos Valley Council of Governments say Burleson County schools will be the first to use the new fibers, since the county has been working on the necessary infrastructure for the past eight years.

The council says it could take up to two years before all counties can fully utilize the fibers.
